Youth Workshop

Registrations

Once you have registered and the payment is processed you will receive access to the members area where you can download all of the relevant learning material for the day and begin learning your songs. All songs have been handpicked by your Musical Director Jonathan Albertini and arranged by world class arranger Deke Sharon who is the producer of Pitch Perfect and Arranger of hit U.S TV series The SingOff. Professional learning tracks will be recorded for you by Jonathan Albertini and sheet music will be available as well. This members area is secure and only members will have access. Registrations can be made via the Voices In Paradise website for $60 per person. This price covers your lunch, dinner education for the event and you get a free T-shirt! So it’s quite a deal for just $60. This fee just helps us cover costs so we can provide you with a fantastic youth education event. All school choirs and other choirs or groups are highly encouraged to get involved. Usually the group sizes are around 10-15 people but we do get some group bookings of over 20 students from one school and it dramatically boosts the motivation of the students to want to either continue to sing a cappella in their school or join their school choir. The minimum group registration is for 10 students and they will receive a group discount for a registration cost of $55 per person as opposed to $60 per person.

Teachers are encouraged to come and watch the workshop and take notes from the educators for your school choir. You will learn plenty of valuable techniques. Teachers will receive free entry into the concert (just request a free ticket upon group registration in the comment section). Teachers that fall between the age limits of 15-30 will be able to participate in the singing as well if interested. Registrants will not receive any additional free tickets however parents can purchase tickets through the VIP website.

Registration End Date

Registrations close 1 month prior to the event to allow registrants enough time to learn the required songs and memorise before the workshop and concert. It is important that you learn your music and memorise it to a confident performance level. We will not be teaching any notes on the day as that will hinder the potential level of musical excellence we can achieve. With all notes and words memorised it means that we can focus on more advanced techniques and develop our songs to a much higher level. There will be choreography on the day so that’s just another reason to be full confident on your music. In the past some exceptions have been made and registrants have been able to join after the cut-off date but that is wholly at the discretion of the Musical Director.

Workshop & Concert

The workshop will take place at Griffith University, Building G40 and all participants are required to be at the venue by 9:30 to sign in and pick up their registration packs. The workshop will start at 10 a.m. and has a reasonably tight schedule. There will be a lunch break at approximately 12.30pm and full lunch packs will be provided by VIP. There will be water facilities there but you are encouraged to bring a water bottle so you can continue to refill it during the day.

The groups will separate into male and female choirs and work on their own songs with coaching by highly qualified personnel. They will work in voice parts and together to get the best sound for the songs. Choreography will be taught during these sessions and a high level of musicality and performance will be achieved for all songs. After lunch, the groups will combine and work on the mixed song and perform for one and other (this will give each group a chance to outperform the other for healthy competition). Lunch and dinner is free of charge for registrants. The workshop ends at 5.00 p.m. and the concert begins at 7.00 p.m. Participants will be fed free pizza for dinner.

The participants are asked to wear casual clothes with closed toe shoes. Participants will be given a VIP T-shirt on the day that has to be worn on stage at the evening concert. Participants will be required to wear respectable full length dark blue jeans (or as close to as possible) for the evening concert and if they don’t want to carry extra clothes during the day they may wish to wear their jeans to the coaching sessions.

Most importantly, make sure you bring your entire family, friends etc along to cheer you on and watch the concert! This is an annual event and a chance to support youth singing on the Gold Coast and have a great night out with the family and friends. Concert Tickets can be purchase via the Voices in paradise website homepage.
